Makaton
Makaton is a sign language system using signs and symbols as a tool to communicate and to support speech.
Children and adults with learning disabilities and difficulties and/or autism use the system to communicate with people around them for example teachers, friends and is used by the public to aid communication.
Makaton can be used on television on two shows “Something Special (Something Special: Out and About/Something Special: We’re All Friends)” on CBeebies and “Dwylo’r Enfys” [Rainbow Hands]” on Planed Plant Bach (Small Children’s Planet)/Cyw (Chick) for S4C in an educational and exciting way.
A music duo called Singing Hands uses Makaton to help develop children and adults with learning disabilities and difficulties and/or autism through songs, music, games and activities.
A blogger/vlogger uses Makaton to communicate with her nine year old brother Lucas who has Down’s Syndrome, eleven year old brother Alexander who has Cerebral Palsy and seven year old sister Indiana showing supporters and followers Makaton signs of the day.
